Have you ever tried editing a Word document on a mobile device? It’s absolutely horrible. Smart phones have become a standard tool of trade in most industries now and tablets aren’t very far behind. There is more and more pressure to be able to work while on the road and the lack of mobile support for Word documents  has held me back from fully embracing mobile devices.

But now — finally — there may be a glimmer of hope (yay!).

Google has announced an update to their Quickoffice app for Android and iOS. It’s an app that previously only worked with Google documents, but now supports Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

I’ve had a bit of a play and it’s not too shabby at all. I’m under no assumption that it’s going to be easy to work with Quickoffice compared to a fully-featured Office installation. Because it’s not. But in terms of having the ability to access and make minor edits to Word docs from a smart phone or tablet, this is a great start.

The only trick is that you need to have Google Drive set up with your Google (aka GMail) account.

Do you use a smart phone or tablet for work? What’s your biggest frustration with it?
